Be glad you have personal printers that you can give your own time to. When somebody in the 3D printing class at my school needs to print something that they designed (the intent of the course) on either of the school printers (a DaVinci 1.0 and an Idea Builder; they were donated), it has to be within about 30x35x40mm, and the instructor has to slice it at 0.4mm layer height, just so that it can be printed within the duration of a class period (about 50 minutes).
I, on the other hand, have the "luxury" of owning a relatively large printer that can print at 0.1mm height with the $20/kg ABS spools I had.

Wardjr, is there anychance you could send me a carriage design for the chimera on the workbench? Ive had my workbench for over a year now and bought the e3d chimera 8 months ago and have not had time to do any design work. The air force has been keeping me too busy to do it. Ofcourse I will still beed to either flash the board or upgrade and flash, but I recently bought an M3D Micro so I would be able to start trying to get my workbench up and running...

So you're looking for a reliable and affordable way to replace the hot ends? If I had to count on a printer to hold up to the abuse of a classroom setting, I'd install an E3d V6. Putting two of those on a workbench is an option but gets expensive. Fortunately E3d makes the Chimera that basically puts two hotends into one convenient package. http://www.printitindustries.com/collec … -assembled
There are several ways to configure this on a Workbench, Bowden or direct drive. And it will require a different carriage be printed. (True for any E3d upgrade). That's not a big deal if you're willing and able to put the time into fixing it. I can design a carriage if that's what you need and you can print it or we can print one for you.
I'm sure you have questions at this point so ask and I'll do my best to answer.

I am a high school tech teacher. Of course I made the choice for Solidoodle. Now they go belly up. I should have realized this when they were screaming for their payment in December. Had I known we never would have paid. Now I'm on the hook to make this work.
So, yes I would accept and ideas you may have and yes we want to use dual exstruders. Unfortunately I am responsible for the cost.

Regards

Jor
