the older Solidoodles also had this issue when cover is on filament has to make a 90 degree turn in a space only a half inch tall while being slid around against the enclosure metal. pure genius design team huh? LOL cant bend it that tight sticking it through hole in spool side to hold end when stored

as for Octave, I just had a bad spool of it also. seems cheaper is better sometimes since its so fickle about going/being bad for dif reasons. Solidoodle printers also kink filament during feed with cover on.

I have been printing with a batch of Blue ABS Solidoodle Filament Batch No:2014-12-26, the first half of the role has been working fine. Over the last few days I have not been able to print because the filament continually breaks.

Before posting this message, I took my Solidoodle Press apart and cleaned all of the print head parts. This included the nozzle and the filament feed mechanism.

On starting a new print, the printer warms up and then starts its bed levelling process. The standard process for a SD Press printer. As soon as the printer head started to move to do the bed levelling the filament broke just above the print head.

The filament size is correct it is 1.75 mm in diameter but the filament breaks with a clean line across the diameter.

Normally the filament would bend and stretch with a change in colour, this is not the case this this spool. The filament has the constancy of dry spaghetti, in a word brittle.


Are there any recommendations on fixing this filament?

Should I just through it away?
