@Viseng and N2ri - I have no idea what the ULN device is. My girlfriend purchased this kit from Murobo.com for my birthday, but it's been a huge, frustrating project that has sat like a paperweight on my counter since the day of purchase.

The parts keep breaking, even after cleaning up the holes for the screws they still don't align correctly, and despite the new lasers that were just sent, they still won't turn on.

Like I said at the beginning of the post, I have no idea about any of this. The instructions that were sent for the kit said to assemble it. I followed them to the letter. It had a parts list, but it didn't list what was connected to the boards, so if something is missing I wouldn't know.

What is the ULN and what does it do?

@Pirvan, thanks for the heads up.

I just inspected the wires and their connection to find one of the lasers barely attached at the laser end. It actually fell off as I picked up the ATLAS unit to begin disassembly. The other laser looks to be in just as bad of shape. I'll post a picture in a bit and send a follow-up once they have been replaced to confirm that was the issue in case someone else see this thread and has the same problem.

Good Morning, Uriah.

The primary issue is that neither of the lasers will turn on. The screen displays the message that left/right laser was toggled on/off, but nothing happens.

Everything else works: the camera is functional, the rotating base works properly, and the network is up and running.

As to my previous statement that everything was gone, I was trying to convey that the following had happened:

1.) Received and built kit.
2.) Installed all software per instructions.
3.) Opened Freelss via terminal command
4.) Figured out lasers weren't turning on, ran update via settings
5.) Rebooted
6.) Attempted to run Freelss again, but program was not found.
7.) Re-installed software following exact same instructions
8.) Opened Freelss again, still having issue with lasers not turning on (but everything else is still working)
9.) Checked update again, but no update was available this time.

The conclusion I arrived at was that, during the update, the software was uninstalled? Either way, the software is up and running right now. The only issue I have is that the lasers will not turn on.

Good Morning, Uriah.

I am running the Pi 2 B kit.

The card that shipped with the device held corrupted data that I couldn't recover. I downloaded the Raspberry Pi Image (2015-05-01-atlas3d.zip), then performed the following steps for install:

sudo su
startx

-terminal-

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

-reboot-

sudo su
startx

-terminal-

sudo apt-get install libpng-dev libjpeg-dev cmake vlc git-core gcc build-essential unzip sqlite3 libsqlite3-dev libmicrohttpd-dev libcurl4-openssl-dev libiw-dev libssl-dev
git clone git://git.drogon.net/wiringPi
cd wiringPi
./build
cd /home/pi
git clone https://github.com/hairu/freelss
cd freelss/src
make
sudo ./freelss

After running FreeLSS, I updated from the settings page, and it made me restart. On restart, I tried to run it, but everything was gone so I went through that whole process again, then rechecked updates. There were no updates available after the second install, so it is presumed that the updates went through.

If there is anything else needed, please advise what commands to obtain the information. I know precious little about linux or raspberry.

First, I'm so new to Raspberry that the fresh Prince thinks I'm hip.

That said, I cannot calibrate the lasers as they won't turn on. And it may be related that any time I move off the lowest resolution settings, I get the Red X on Black background.

I've read through the forum over the last few days, but am still unsure what to post while asking for help. The stickies didn't seem to address the issue - or I could have missed it, I am human. Either way, I would appreciate any help at this point.

Thanks in advance.
