Good idea. Yes, there are many designs tried with various methods. I have a design as well that I am looking for others to evaluate, suggest or even develop further if it is a viable design.

The Splicer design is mentioned in the group "3D Think Tank" on the http://3dprintboard.com/ website. The site is devoted to helping others in their design, process or creative efforts.

My next design is going to be similar to the last. I'm going to have two pieces that fit together tightly to form the filament guide. Two half circles that close up tight. I have 2 ideas about how to go about making it. I'm going to mill one set and I'm gonna try to use a wire edm to cut the last one

I'm wondering if you might want to make a slide that can be removed after its done being welded. I could see the plastic forming way out of shape with a void to fill in the slot.

I shared a link for a splicer some time ago...I don't recall the name, but the company was based out of Spain and sold out for the longest time. Anywho...
Let's not take anything away from kronik's project. There are many ways this can be done, and these hasn't been much discussion on splicers/fusers.

OP keep us posted!
