I printed the X Carriage by Andy004 from thingverse and it has issues.
The clamp blocks have a gap between them when clamped around the E3d top.
The lands for the nozzle holder groove needs to be deeper.

When centering the nozzle, the heater and thermistor wires are jammed forward against part of the carriage.
Ill need to remove the heater and turn around so wires face back, but thermistor wires are forward.

They were available early as step files,
but the ones I saved must have been in a later version because I cant open them to modify.

I think my carriage was printed at 30-35 infill, weighs 10g more than original,
but has an incorporated fan nozzle which is very cool.

added. Found another problem w/ printed X carriage, no end stop piece for the x- axis sensor.
Difficult to figure where to precisely glue it, without assembly it in the DAV.
Considering its printed w/ that side down, he could have put a slot in the model to glue a piece in.
6-7 hr print, well that was disappointing. Now I cant trust it .
Reusing the OEM X carriage.

The e3d 1.75 is universal you don't need to order the Bowden one. (unless its a clone. ps buy the real thing)

it can do direct and it can be used as a Bowden fed hot end. if you but the 3mm that is not the case.

3mm is more friendly for flex filaments in a Bowden set up then 1.75 is. However I have printed with flex and a Bowden (not my davinci it is direct)

If you slow the speed way down you can print with fex filaments and a Bowden set up. I was able to print at about 20 mm/s at max with a 1.75 and Bowden depending on your printer you might be able to get some what faster

With my davinci I print at 30 mms with flex. I find if I print faster then that I find I have to baby sit it to make sure it doesn't squirt out the side or jam the gears. one thing that also helps when using a Bowden and flex is to minimize the Bowden tube length.

Personally...I've had my DAV for about 1.5 years, and only about 1 month ago switched from the stock setup to a bowden + E3D v6 setup.

So....I like the bowden. My prints look amazingly better and more precise. Same with the E3D v6. I'm finally able to print at 0.1mm per layer precisely.
A few things....I got a bowden setup from Ebay. It works relatively well. I haven't fully dialed in the new settings in regards to the feeding of the filament (still getting some hairs here and there). But it's good enough to get prints done right now.
I'm still 100% completely stock firmware. I haven't changed over to repetier yet. I just haven't taken the time to do it simply because I'm way too damn busy printing stuff.

All I can say is that I'm very pleased with the bowden setup. While I can't do the flexible filaments like Ninjaflex, PLA and ABS work just fine.

I might also add to this, I'm using Simplify 3D for printing, which allows me to control pretty much everything. Which is why I haven't changed over to repetier.

Hmmmm... decisions. big weight reduction going bowden.
Have the DAV completely gutted right now.
Replacing all bushings w/ Frelon flanged sleeve bearings. 8mm x 12mm, pop right in.

One problem, I purchased the E3D Lite direct. Actually 2. Bought a NIB DAV 1.0A the other week. $225 craigslist !
It seems w/ the bowden the top of hot end has some type of screw in coupler.
Anyone have a pic of this ?
