When I had my 1.0 I used the same temp for the entire model.

For reference I have the first layer height set to 0.3mm and the extrusion width set to 150%.

I assume you did bed calibration.  If not I would definitely recommend the paper method that Carl outlined in the stickied post.  You will get it dialed in.  Everytime I changed something I needed to redial things in.

Mine is a bit quieter I wouldn't say it is a huge difference but noticeable.  Do I need to change any of the stock setting stored on the printer's eprom (acceleration, jerk, ect)? to make it quieter and reduce the stress on the system?

Nope, good as it is.. The issue is stock firmware sets the current to high since it is digitally controlled on this board. This makes the motors louder, hotter, and prone to accelerated failure.

Repetier firmware is tuned better to drive the motors with lower and proper current ranges.

Well I'm just about to finish my first print after flashing!  Everything is going very smooth.  Thanks for all the help in this thread!  I already have a roll of hatchbox filament showing up tomorrow.  Hoping this will improve quality even more since I will be ditching the XYZ filament.

Do you notice a difference in sound. On mine it was as different as day and night. It was actually hard to hear it in the same room.

Perfect.  Im sold!  Are there any good resources for what steps need to be taken after flashing.  I know about bed leveling but is there a complete list somewhere that shows the steps from flashing to the printer being ready to print.

Is repetier 0.92 still the newest version or is there something newer?

Now that I have been using my printer for a year (with great success) I have found myself at a cross roads. As of lately I am beginning to print more and more and want see what I can do to improve print quality. My current setup is an original 1.0 using stock material. Currently I use slic3r exclusively to generate my gcode. Once complete I manually edit the gcode heading and upload the file to the SD card in the back of the printer and save it as the demo print. With slic3r I have control over temperatures, speeds and most other aspects of printing.

My question is for those of you using repetier 0.92. Is it worth flashing my printer to run repetier or just sticking with what I have?  If I choose to stick with what I have I am definitely going to build a resetter and use a different brand of filament.  I just don't see the benefit of risking it since I already have control over most printing parameters.

By flashing to Repetier you will also gain the ability to correctly calibrate your printer which I can assure you it is not right now. You can make sure when you call for a 20 mm cube you get a 20mm cube. You can make sure your esteps on your extruder are set right so you actually get the amount of filament that you should be.

Also the stock firmware is supplying way too much current to your motors and will burn them out faster than normal. This also crates a large amount of noise. Just going to Repetier firmware will lower the current and also make the machine 100% quieter. You will actually have a hard time hearing it in the same room with other ambient noises unlike now where it is the center of all noise. That alone was enough for me.
