I don't know where to find those settings in stock DaVinci firmware (no access to it). I installed Repetier 0.92 firmware and a E3D_Lite hot end then, after dialing it in, I put the DaVinci hot end back in the machine - it seems to do a better job for the kind of engineering parts I print.

As Carl pointed out, the 'def' is most likely resulting from a difference of more than 15 deg(?) between setpoint and reported temp of extruder. You can change that trip point in Repetier but not in stock firmware.

Why the difference? FYI - Because the E3D thermistor is not the same as the DaVinci's. Some folks seem to have no problem with this but, I did. In the end, I changed the setpoint (to stop the def) and cut the R29 resistor from motherboard - I eventually added a variable resistor (a trim-pot) to the thermistor's circuit (simply added it to the thermistor on the extruder, not on motherboard).

Now, no 'def' and I can tweak the reported temp for calibration with an external K-type thermistor. Not suggesting in any way you do that or to go with Repetier - the point being, you can change the setpoint and be aware that reported temps may be false (and may need to raise the extrude print temp setting).

My XYZ DaVinci 1.0 recently has had a problem where it doesn't show the temperature for the extruder it just shows a def and won't print because of it. I checked the wire that goes from the print head to the board and check to see if they were connected to the board. I know that on the x-axis the wires sometime get destroyed in the inside and you have to replace them, which happened on another one of my printers however could this happen to the wires to the extruder. I have soldered the wires in replace of the plug but this worked perfectly fine on my other printer, and has worked on this for a long time so I don't think it's that either. Any suggestions?
