The thermistor is not plugged in because I am working on a mounting bracket and connecting wires to the v6.

There has to be a valid temperature reading for the printer to do anything, it is a safety interlock.

I have a solidoodle 4 which I am in the process of installing a v6 on. Without the v6 even plugged in. The manual controls don't do anything. The home buttons work but the other ones don't. It also gives a m999 error, but nothing is plugged in to the thermistor connector. Does anybody know what might be causing this?

You have a short or loose wire.

You could also have a short. What errors are you showing?
