The bottom of the metal extruder was flat on the 1.0 but the 2.0 is rounded slightly at the bottom. This did help then the next thing I did that seemed to improve things further is adjust the z offset until it printed nice prints (about 2 paper thicknesses above the print bed). Sometimes you have to go above or below that to find the sweet spot. Also, if you haven't checked out youtube and done the deep cleaning method they posted then I would also try that.

It would help if you post a picture of what you mean by banding.. That printer really should not have any banding since it was prebuilt and no chance of mismatched z-screw dimensions.
