I'm using 1.0.5 bc it was the only one i could find my board on. This is the main reason I'd like to sell the printer

I would also try using an older version of Arduino like 1.0.5 as the newer versions have issue with older hardware such as LCD's and maybe the Sanguino boards.

yeah I can tell its the right board and com port. The board makes a different tone once I select the right one. And it all verifies. Is there something I'm missing after I hit upload?

Don't hold the reset. Just a press is all that is needed.

tried it still no success.
not sure what I'm doing wrong. I hold the reset button on the board for about 10 sec.s then hit upload. Is that the issue?

You may want to change your title. If the firmware will compile then it will upload. The board does not do any kind of check on it.
So the board is flashing, you are just flashing with incorrect settings as others have pointed.

On most printers the following is correct and should at least get it to run.

#define TEMP_SENSOR_0 1
#define TEMP_SENSOR_1 0 <-------Depends on if a second extruder is present. Then would be 1 as well.
#define TEMP_SENSOR_2 0 <-------Same as SENSOR_1.
#define BED_SENSOR 1

Once you confirm your thermistors are reading around 23c at room temp then you should be ok.

Based on the following code.

Your max extruder temps are set to 265. So you should not get an over temp error at anything below 255. You have to allow a bit of overhead for overshoot during heating.
