I recommend you check their info out, I'm rather new to them. This is 1/4" capable on many woods and acrylics and no need for coolant tanks or buckets, for one thing. There's a few reviews around (the video at http://www.tested.com/tech/543141-meet- … r-printer/ covered a little history and fairly recent capabilities, plus they've put up a few newer videos lately).

One unique aspect of this machine is that it has cameras built into the lid and laser head, to enable some kinds of automatic registration and surface following.

There are many laser engravers on ebay in the 40 watt range for under $500. Is there a problem with them? I mean s CO2 laser is a CO2 laser. I guess cost could be cut in the logic and conttol precision but they are claimed to be able to cut 1/8th wood.

I went for one of these pre-order laser engraver/laser cutters at Glowforge (disclosure - that link gets $100 off the 1/2 price pre-order, both for you and I if anyone buys through it) - the naked link if you prefer is just http://www.glowforge.com

Anyway, 40W or 45W CO2 laser, cloud-based software that accepts many common formats, and at $2k on pre-order, it's the least expensive laser I know of at its power.

Just thought some of you here might be interested!

P.S. I kind of find it irritating that they call it a 3D laser printer... but it sort of can do shallow routing-like work shaping with its auto-focusing and shape following. I just need to get over the feeling; times, they are still a-changing...
