yes I think we all experience this.
if you think about it there is a fair amount of control in the first layer. This control may vary some depending on what slicer program you are using. Typically I see first layer height . first layer speed and first layer bed and extruder temps. And first layer extrusion width.
I just ran a handful of infill sample disks. running red inland PLA 210c/50c .3mm first layer 100% extrusion width 30 mm/sec .
perimeters first then infill. 15% overlap. Not a whole lot of lip on these.
a blessing and a curse is there is a pause from the time I hit the start button until the print starts and the plastic oozes from the nozzle so the first few lines are a bit lacking.
I am using cura these days. Slic3r is just not working for me. I like it it has lots of control but for some reason it just will not slice.
tin

Carl, is was this how I achieved excellent adhesion. I can only remove pieces after the bed has been cooled a little. Well, thats when my Press actually works . Wich unfortunately is rare

It's called elephant's foot. As others have said, it results from printing very slightly too close to the bed and can be reduced by printing a very slight bit farther away (recalibrating your Z offset). The difference between too much elephant's foot and not enough adhesion is very tiny, so you really have to be patient to dial it in. I adjust my Z screw about 1/8th of a turn at a time, and if you switch nozzles or even just first layer heights, you may be to adjust it again if you want near perfect prints. It may never be completely eliminated on all prints. Good luck.

Yup. It's a battle between too little adhesion and lip size. I just accept the bigger lip and trim it with a utility knife.

I've found that by increasing the distance of the bed from the nozzle helps this.
Parts with 100% infill would not be a good candidate for this since the first layer adhesion would be too poor to prevent lifting.

I try different bed levels trying to get that just right level where I stick but have minimal 1st layer squish. Often I will get that very small lip around the bottom edge of my print and I was just curious how other deal with it. Sanding, cutting, or just leaving it. Once in a blue moon I will get my bed just right where it leaves no lip and still sticks. But most of the time that lip is there and really bugs me.
