If you're into mechanical/functional parts (where dimensions are important) a constructive modeller is best (e.g. a full-blown CAD program). People usually write these off as "too complicated and too expensive", which has up until recently been largely true.

If you need to make enclosures for things, or make multiple parts that fit/work together, then you may need to be able to do assemblies - which is already more than Cubify Invent (there is Cubify Design, which does this for $200 - I have no experience with this software, but it seems like it could be pretty appropriate for the job).

Before you go spend money though, there are finally some usable free CAD options to try out:
* Autodesk Fusion 360 (STL import + export) - similar to autocad inventor
* OnShape (STL export only) - similar to solidworks, very new, more features appearing nearly weekly...

This said, I've never once had a STL file come out of Solidworks that didn't slice straight off the bat.
I think it's bodgy export programs (I think Sketchup is still a culprit!) that are causing this headache!

yes happens lots. if netfab wont fix then I set files aside for later attempts. got thousands to deal with lol. view them in netfab b4 slicing even if netfab dont show errors but has some red spots it likely wont slice as usable due to holes/gaps/missing parts

I mainly wanted to know if anyone ever had similar problems. Where the 3d model seemed ok in slicer but the gcode was messed up when you view it in layers.
Others have printed it with success, so maybe it's slic3r?

Greetings,
So I have been trying for a few days now to print a pair of Spider-man eye frames but it just wont print right.
Others have printed this successfully so Im positive im doing something wrong or missing something. I cant really ask them since most of them are inactive on the forums i got the file from.

Idk if its something happening when I convert it to gcode. But even in slic3r there seems to be gaps or something not right. I also get errors in Netfab when I load it and cut it in half.

Any idea what it could be? I uploaded the file. I have to up the scale in slic3r by 2250% idk if thats a problem or not
