Do you have active cooling on the RAMPS board/stepper drivers besides the heat sinks?  Also, which stepper drivers are you running on the RAMPS?

Yes they have heatsinks and I have fan on it. The fan is mainly for the bed MOSFET as the RAMPS has a known problem of that MOSFET dropping out if not cooled.

The stepper drivers that are in it now are the ones it came with. Just basic Polulu clones. I am going to upgrade to DRV8825 soon.

UPDATE:

So I adjusted my vref from .250 to .275 and it seems to be printing now with out jamming from the filament tension. I have made it through one complete print of one of the Delta motor mounts. Just two more then I have all my plastic done. Motors are getting much warmer but not hot yet. Also only made a very small increase in my noise level.

Here you go Carl- looks like steady 1.32 volts.

Cool, now I have a base number. If possible maybe one more of you could do this just for consistency.
So that means they are running your motors at 1.3 amps.

As most of you know I installed a RAMPS in place of my stock board. The stock board was supplying too much current to the Extruder. Causing it to over heat to the point of failure. Anyways I should have checked before removing the stock board just for reference but I did not and so now I have a problem.

I have the current adjusted on the RAMPS to just enough which is what you are supposed to do. You can't do this on a stock board as there are no pots on the stepper drivers. Instead they hardwired the current limit with a fixed resistor on costume drivers. This current limit is much too high and is one of the main reasons your machines are all so noisy. However tonight I found the reason why they have set it so high. I have been trying to print parts for my Delta. One because I need them and wanted a color besides black. Then two i wanted to test out the new and reformed 1.0. I opted for neon yellow. The only local source was Microcenter and XYZ filament. So I bit the bullet and bought two over priced cartridges. Now for a week I have been running test prints with orange which was Midland brand with no issue. It was on spool that I loaded on my spool holder which feeds with little resistance.

However the cartridges have much more resistance and takes some force to pull the filament out. This has led to layer shifts caused by my motors not having enough torque now due to the lower current limit and getting jammed by the filament pull and causing missed steps. This brings me back to the quest I have for you.

I need one brave soul to open the back of their machine while powered up. It does not need to be printing, being idle is fine. Once you get the back off and good lighting as this is hard to see. I need you to do the following. With your trusty meter set on volts, I need you to connect ground to any of the the black wires from the power supply. Then very carefully look at one of the stepper drivers preferably one on the bottom just so we are using the same reference. In fact lets go with the left bottom for the moment. This is the X axis driver. Just to the left of the IC in the middle of that driver is a small copper or maybe gold pad. I need you to carefully place your positive lead on it and note the voltage reading. Should be millivolts. Once you do that I need you to repeat on the Y axis driver which is the bottom right one.

I want to compare the stock setting on the stock board to the setting I have on my RAMPS and try to reach a happy medium that will supply enough current to use stock filament if I want but not so much the motors get hot. Motors should not get hot no matter how long they run just so you all know this. Warm yes, hot no.

So if somebody could take this reading for me and post the X and Y vref it would be appreciated.
