I own the almost infamous acrylic frame prusa i3 from FolgerTech, and it was my first 3d printer build. It works exceptionally well considering the price($319 when I purchased it in Feb, has since dropped), and was a great learning experience.

Today I learned FolgerTech will soon begin selling an aluminum i3 version($269.99) for less than the acrylic version($289.99). If anyone is interested in building a kit I would def. recommend this one. There were a few errors on their acrylic "build guide" that I know have been updated and they used an older version of Marlin, and that may have been updated since Feb too. There is a large thread on the reprap forum dedicated to the acrylic printer that possibly covers every single problem someone's had with the build. Lots of people read the thread before purchasing the printer, myself included, which helped get a feel for the build and there are a lot of videos on youtube that show this build.

Overall I plan on buying one soon. There are always some downsides too, as you might want to replace the extruder and hotend soon, as some people have experienced clog after clog, though I haven't had too much of a problem with the stock stuff. I don't work for FolgerTech, but I do own the acrylic prusa i3 and I love it and thought I'd share my opinion.
