Yes, I do get great pints - all those photo's I posted were printed at either 5000, 4000, or 3600 - depending upon the photo but, my comments indicate which is which.  Since those posts, I've been printing at 3600 (and rapid move at 5000) for the past few days.  Good parts!

Note: I included in previous posts an image of the spec's for my machine. I looked at the spec's online and they no longer include the speeds indicated in the image.  Perhaps I got a machine built by a better supplier (to xyx folks) and/or with revised design -  Fairly common (been engineering and managing 40yrs).

I agree and want to underscore my comment from my posted settings (referenced post): "Attached are the processes I found to be the best for the engineering parts I design/print - perhaps of some help.."

I don't print icon figures, picture frames and whatnot... My parts are utilitarian and I design and model all of them (I don't use models off the net).

I've been running S3D's stock settings for the Da Vinci.  The only thing I've changed is the speed.  I'll print anywhere from 60 mm/s to 80mm/s.  Temp wise I'm running 230C for ABS (microcenter house brand) and 100C for the boro glass heated bed.

You can print at that speed? That is really fast. I cant get anything to print with proper infill and flow unless I run at 30 mm/s or less. 60 sounds high for even high end systems like makerbots.

As this is an alternate to XYZware, there should be settings that produce the same results. This is not the case as of yet with the defaults.

S3D is not made just for the Da Vinci nor is it to be condidered an alternative to XYZcrapware. S3D is just another one of the many host that are out there like Cura host, Craftware, RH, and many more. S3D is justnot free and as such has some extra perks like support for XYZ printers in addition to the other some odd 100 or more.

If you where to flash a Da Vinci with Repetier Firmware then any other host/slicer out there would support it as well. The only thing that makes an XYZ printer unique is that they are using soecial firmware that does not make the port a common Adruino device but something unique that only XYZware recognizes and that S3D has been able to figure out and support as well.

IMO it is pointless providing best settings to a new user. I will never use anyone's settings period. I don't think one print is similar to the next. You need to learn S3D and manually adjust each setting according to what you are printing.

I agree with this. I have seen many prints that people think are great while I thought they where horrible and had all kinds of setting errors. What one person may find acceptable another may not.

It is best to work out your own settings and what you feel is acceptable.

I've increased the speeds but the spreadsheet shows 1800, which is the baseline speed for xyzware.  I currently use speed of 3600 and dial down from there.... Play around with it on the parts you want to make and dial it in...

Use Temp of ~215 for XYZ filament and 230 for Shaxon... see what others use, too...
