for measuring the filament, I usually pull out a couple of yards worth & take several readings in random spots along that length, jotting them down on paper, then figure an average of all readings taken. Can get much better results that way.

I twisted another 1/2 down turn into the Z stop. It's noticeably better. I must be just at the breaking point of a good-stick first layer and further layer problems. I really need to print another Z axis adjustment thingy, mine kinda wobbles...
I finally printed the left Lawsy's carriage, and lo and behold, the bearings snapped in, and actually ride rather nicely on their shafts. That's about 4 months worth of figgerin', 5 or 6 different prints and other manipulations. Am now printing the right side carriage. The center sections I printed are OK (I think) Let ya know later!!
I still hafta do some more finite adjustments, but we're gettin' there.

110 sounds a little high but it is what it is. Extrusion multiplier will be will be the one you need to focus on next. Your calibration cube should have a single wall thickness of .48. Of course this means you'll want to change your extrusion widths to .48 also. Those can be found in the advance tab in your Slice profile. You will also find Z-lift in your slice profile. I would like to reiterate that given proper calibration Z-lift is unnecessary.

I did the extruder steps per mm, and went from factory 138.00 to 110.12. It took about 4 times to finally get RH to save it. The extrusion multiplier - every time I mic the filament, I get a slightly different number, and thusly it equates to a different multiplier. Sounds like I'm trying for perfection here - not yet. Gotta get the basics out of the way first. The calibration cube came out OK, 'cept it's 25.38 on one side and 25.19 on the other. The height is 24.92. The width and depth are probably from the extrusion factor, but I'll have to do a little more on the height. Don't really want to mess with the X, Y & Z steps.
Got some more tinkering to do.......

Not that I'm gonna use it, but where do you find the 'Z-lift'?

Ski

You can use Z-lift but you have symptoms that indicates a need for further calibration. Particularly extrusion multiplier and steps per mm. I rarely if ever use Z-lift as it can exasperate backlash on the Z-axis.

Is there such a setting in Slic3r or RH? I'm finally getting this ABS stuff down, not warping, sticking down - 'cept now when the extruder finishes a layer and goes across the print to start another, the nozzle drags, not all the time, but enough to leave a mark when it does drag, and then it offsets the next layer. I've seen a few discussions about extraction, and just haven't paid attention enough. If I could get the nozzle to pick up just a tiny bit more when it moves.....

Can it be done?

TIA

Ski
