If I recall about 4-5 amps.
It's not that the PSU can't handle it assuming it operates at its rated capacity. There's the problem and although it will work and I have a local friend that ran one exactly that way. That PSU is maxed out and tends to need constant repair. The wires going into the PSU routinely need to be soldered. The LED's Flicker and VREF's tend to be finicky to adjust. We replaced to a bigger PSU and all problems went away.

Thanks wardjr!

What happens if using the stock power supply with the 40W (red) heater cartridge? It will require full current of 3.33 amps vs 2.08 amps for the 25W heater. The power supply can't supply the extra 1.25 amps needed? It seems that upgrading the header connector on the board to one that can handle 4 amps would do it, since the mosfet can handle the extra current.

Also, do you know how much current/power does the stock bed heater uses for an SD4?

You should have no issues using the stock PSU if it is healthy and your V6 has the 25watt heater (blue wires). Most of us that upgraded the PSU did so back when only the 40 watt (red wires) heater was available. That along with faulty and/or poor PSU's made the upgrade a necessity.
That being said your printer will be much happier with more power. For less than $30 the SuperNight PSU has proven to be a worthy upgrade.

You have an E3d you should use the thermistor it was designed for. They are cheap and have a life span so order a few as spares. You then set it to table 5 in configuration.h with a max temp of 290. That is all you will need for proper assembly and if you plan on using materials that require hotter you will need to switch to a thermocouple like this one. http://www.filastruder.com/collections/ … welded-tip
