I used to work at a surplus store and would stock up on stepper motors whenever we got something new in. I should probably go through my box of steppers (it's one of those big boxes for holding reams of paper) and sort out what I have. Might save me (or a forumite) some anguish down the line!

They didn't have a great selection.

I'd order from Solidoodle. But they've taken 15 days to try and ship me 1 Y motor. And I know it'll be the same crap.

Wish I could find the right motors easily. I'm out of my depth on these though.

I don't know why you have a preference for that site but if you are flexible on the store, here are some that I have ordered.  Disclaimer is that I have yet to fire them up and test it but all the specs line up and they are higher torque than the stock motors.

You can also order them with custom length cables and connectors, but I didn't realize that until after so I got bare wire leads.  I think epacket is not available on packages as big as 4 motors so I had to go with DHL.  It was about $43 for all the motors, but another $30 in shipping.  But I did get it VERY quickly, I think it was 3 or 4 days from china to east coast USA.

Do you happen to know which connectors you would have ordered? And was this for a Rumba or the stock board?

I am not by my 'doodle so I can't tell you what the stepper values should be, and their selection isn't the best, but they are chicagoland local (I could pick my stuff up there if it wasn't for my work schedule). Same with Inventables, though their selection for NEMA 17s is even more lackluster than ATs.

I try to shop local whenever I can just because I am compulsive about working on stuff so if I don't get it in the 3-5 day window when I actually want to work on the project it ends up waiting another month.

Also sorry about the ebay plug, totally unnecessary. I keep ending up there because of the dearth of good alternatives in Australia:
* Local suppliers have a limited range and/or are expensive (I do find some things, bilbycnc.com.au and modfab.com.au I have bought from)
* US / US-centric suppliers don't ship here or charge a lot to do so
Overall my experience has been similarly positive to VBR's.

First, I didn't explain for any reason the than I am open about it to everyone.

And I know eBay is good for stuff, if I can wash it, I buy from them.

Still can't find them store wise is the problem. And I really want a very 'drop in replacement' Lawsy thing.

I can't imagine finding stuff in AUS. It took a me a week to find a power bar in Jamaica once. Every one the resort had to borrow had the ground cut off. (and they had grounded plugs!)

Treatment-refractory means you've had every treatment possible,multiple times, and no improvement

Logically I know they all come from the same place. But logically I know there is no reason I can't touch that light switch. Doesn't make it possible.

Anyways, the goal is to build the lawsy gantry entirely separate so it can be a plug and play replacement. This the steppers.

I really don't like ordering from China or eBay. Yet it seems like no option.
