Also, you mentioned having a vinyl plotter. Is it like mine where it uses a virtual com port via USB? The solidoodle connects the same way, and there could be some sort of conflict there.

You can save and load files from repetier, basically do a slice and then save the code, restart everything, then load the code and hit go. I am not at my printer PC right now, so I can't tell you the exact name of the button. I'm sure someone will beat me to it.

Baron, thanks
How do you save and run Gcode though?
Can you copy and paste to a file, then paste that back in to repetier? Or do you have to save to an SD card and run from there?

The only thing i can think of is maybe seeing if you can save a gcode file and send that directly after you make a connection instead of slicing first. If there is some sort of issue (something in the computer is taking over com ports) then there might be a window directly after connecting where you can send over code instead of waiting for slic3r.

It's worth a shot!

Not much to go on - had a live session with solidoodle a couple of weeks ago, but they closed the session before running a test print - we were able to make connection with the printer and it can be controlled manually but it still will not print.

We were supposed to do another live session yesterday but they never showed up, I emailed them and said I would be ready again today - still no go.

I am wondering if there is some sort of time-out or sleep feature happening with the machine/software. If I let it set idle for a few minutes the manual control is lost and I have to disconnect/reconnect in order to regain manual control. I wonder if that is what is causing the problem - the printer "goes to sleep" while the slicer is working.

I am sure that it is not the computer going to sleep because other programs are still active while I am slicing.

Any ideas?

From what I can see in the code in the log, it is an IO error, and since it did not work on the other computer it makes sense that the cable is the culprit.

Snagged a spare cable here at work (actually 2) so will try to give it a shot tonight. Also trying to get a PDF to import correctly into my vinyl cutter (too damn many hobbies!)

The whole sorry saga:
I had not used the printer for a year, when I put it away it was working.
Got it out, hooked up, tried a print - it would move in x,y,z but would not extrude plastic during the print (temperature of the extruder was at 195).

I could extrude plastic using the Manual Control, but it would not extrude during print.
Contacted support, they suggested making sure I had all the software and drivers installed correctly - seems like the default response (I did) - and make sure all the settings were correct (I did and they were)

While I was waiting for a response I decided to uninstall and re-install everything, including the USB driver.
After doing that, the printer would not even respond to manual control.

Their suggestion was to try a different computer, so I did - and it still would not move. Double checked the settings, nothing.
At this point I noticed that when I opened Repetier there was a message (on Control Panel) that there were commands waiting.

I checked the log and this is the type of message that was there:

16:44:07.055 : OpenGL renderer:NVS 3100M/PCIe/SSE2
16:44:07.055 : Using fast VBOs for rendering is possible
16:44:17.085 : Serial com error:System.IO.Ports.SerialErrorReceivedEventArgs
16:44:17.090 : Serial com error:System.IO.Ports.SerialErrorReceivedEventArgs
16:44:17.091 : Serial com error:System.IO.Ports.SerialErrorReceivedEventArgs
16:44:17.099 : Serial com error:System.IO.Ports.SerialErrorReceivedEventArgs
16:44:17.102 : Serial com error:System.IO.Ports.SerialErrorReceivedEventArgs
16:44:17.130 : Serial com error:System.IO.Ports.SerialErrorReceivedEventArgs

I moved back to the original computer, made sure I uninstalled and deleted everything related to Solidoodle, Repetier, Python, etc. and re-installed including the USB driver. Still no joy, and the same kind of message in the log.

I can hear a sort of "clunk" when I connect the USB cable, but I am unable to move, print or extrude.

Also, on the original computer, there is a duplicate set of printers in the "Connect" list - anyone know how to get rid of the extra set?

Thanks for any help!
