<![CDATA[SoliForum - 3D Printing Community — Print a spare carriage NOW!]]> https://www.soliforum.com/topic/10513/print-a-spare-carriage-now/ Sun, 29 Mar 2015 23:50:42 +0000 PunBB <![CDATA[Re: Print a spare carriage NOW!]]> https://www.soliforum.com/post/91276/#p91276 Got the Lawsy carriage installed yesterday using a modified top to support the stock extruder.  It's nice!  Much less drag than the bushings.  I had to replace all the smooth rods - the originals felt very gritty (I guess slightly oversized and loading the bearings too much).  The belt guard in the back left was printed with the new carriage and if you look closely, you can see some ringing on the Y axis (manifests as ripples in the X to the left of each of the slots).  The extra drag in the original bushings was probably damping that (at the cost of hysteresis).  I'll back off on the acceleration to see if I can eliminate it.  Does the Marlin acceleration setting also affect the decelleration?

Yeah, amazing it lasted this long really.  Not even a stress riser in the design - shop101!  Of course the light infill didn't help matters either.

Don't make the same mistake.  Stop now and print it!

I glued it back together with acetone.  Also glued a splint (made from scrap ABS) across the top to help reinforce it.  Hopefully it lasts long enough to get my new carriage printed.  If not, I'll come begging, hat in hand...  ;-)
