Custom Printer

Hello!

Sharing my current project, A custom printer for a specific purpose, if everything works out I'll share the end goal results as well.

Disclaimer, I'm making a point to learn how to use these forms.

I'm open to feedback/suggestions.

Currently bench testing, and revising some parts as I go. Allot of the materials are cannibalize from E5P, and picked out of scrap bins. Klipper is running, and working as it should with a hodgepodge of a config file.

Biggest hurdle at the moment is bed heating (Ill get into that soon)

Build Plate: 1100mm x 550mm, sheet of galvanized plate. With 6mm tempered glass top (I work with glass, its flat and easily replaced)
PSU: 1500w 24v DC
Motherboard: BTT Octopus Pi V1.1 , 7 Steppers. ( 4, Z's )
Hot end: Currently Volcano DD,
Leveling: Currently BL Touch, will probably be optical
Bed Heating: 2, 110v 750w silicon heaters... Please help me
OS: Klipper

On the To do list:
Bed heating
Hot end/bearing block mount needs re worked. (Will fix belt tension issues)
Print mount for the optical sensors.
Print mount for cable tracks,
Print control box cover for screen holder, main on/off, fuse location,
Frame reinforcement / Enclosure.
Cable management
LED's

Like I said, the bed heaters. I have a loose idea on how to wire them up, however I would like some guidance.

Is this correct: Heaters should have a direct connection from the main line into the PSU? Then through a SSR, with thermal fuse, wired in series? And thoroughly grounded.

Ill buy someone a beer to draw me up a diagram, I understand that stuff better.

Cheers!

I'm still no great designer. But my skills have come a long way thanks to my 3d printing hobby that started with my Solidoodle 2. I still use mostly OpenSCAD but have started to do some of my workflow in Blender lately as I start to learn it a little.

I am a collector of minimates, a 2" block figure similar to a lego man but with more articulation. Knees and elbows for example. The very first one I collected was a Cylon Centurian. They teased a ship for the Cylons but never got enough interest to manufacture and sell it. Many years later I recently designed my own and put it up on thingiverse. There are two versions of the ship and a Cylon torso for lego figures among others on my profile. I'm quite pleased with this work.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5766423

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 situation, I had been printing ear savers for the people I work with as well as friends and family. My wife tipped me off to something that could help those who have issues with the mask touching their mouth when they breathe in (issues as in literal panic attacks, triggering claustrophobia, and one who's PTSD kicks in after a while). This object looks reasonably easy to try and design, but evidently I underestimated it or became over confidant in my abilities. I have been using DesignSpark for most of the objects and tools I design, but this particular project has been kicking my butt...

Most of the issue stems from DesignSpark, not to say that it's bad software. I have trouble with trying to make parts curve. DesignSpark does great for making simple sketches into a 3d model with reasonable precision. Chamfers and Bevels? great! Intersections? Pretty good. Negations? Fantastic! Dragging the edge of a part down 5mm and out 10? Nah, can't do that.

Below you'll find the best picture I can find about what I'm trying to design. I'll take ideas on how best to make the shapes and put them together with my current suite, or suggestions on a software better suited for this kind of thing.

I'm printing on an XYZ daVinci mini W+ with Matter Hacker's PLA.

Look at this awesome a meter-wide 3D printed model of the Honda HA-420

Hi guys! My name is Josh and I am a 3D printing engineer. I would like to share with you my last work.

I had a difficult task: to create a meter-wide model of the Honda HA-420 HondaJet for the sales office. To do this, I had scanned a small original metal model from the HONDA factory. Thus, I had obtained a 3D model in order to increase it proportionally and create a meter-wide model. I had printed parts of the final model on the 3D printer Hercules Strong 2017 and Picaso Designer X. For this I used ABS plastic from REC. I had processed all the seams on the model with solvents and stitched it up with a Myriwell RP100B 3D pen. After that, I processed the model with sandpaper and painted.

Also during the process I put a complete wiring system into the model.

I made a stand for the model on a SolidCraft CNC-6090 milling machine using 25 mm MDF, and then painted it.

I will be glad to answer any of your questions. What do you think about this work?

I never really used the laser engraving feature of the 3D printer until recently. So I started with my wooden pen holders to laser engrave these cute pups and kitties.
I got better at it after some trial and error by tweaking parameters of the image and software settings. And I'd recommend test engraving before doing any real engraving to see how the laser strength will reflect on the object (the depth and effect it has on the object).
I use a da Vinci Jr. 1.0 A Pro to do it.

I'm still learning along the way and if there are some suggestions you have, please feel free to share too!
