Sorry I misunderstood you.

Only thing I can think of is open circuit in the wiring or plug.

The thermistor should measure about 80-100k.

The Da Vinci only display's Celsius.

7.4 would be about 46 degrees Fahrenheit.

How cold is your house?

Mine usually is about 10 Celsius in the morning.

The heater is not polarized so it does not matter. However there is a setting accessed from the LCD that set the printer to preheat when turned on. You may have that option on.
