many thin fine detail prints still need at least 2mm 1st layer or even a raft and maybe brim for good adhesion to bed. thats main thing is a solid foundation. some even need support and more stable infill depending on object being printed shape and tiny details. I do as small as Z scale vehicles 1:200 so takes lots of fails to learn whats needed and still cant get as tiny as powder or resin 3D printers but close and with duel extruders using wash away support very close just some wasted material. but hey prints near same as a $50k plus printer for under a grand cant be beat;^P

Quality is a bit of an open term.
what are you trying to accomplish.
3d printing is a balance of many things
layer height generally smaller layers make for a smoother print abs can be vapor polished to further improve finish.
other quality issues include :
Dimensional accuracy
Bridging performance
Overhang performance
Negative space performance
Fine positive space performance
resonance

More info here.

http://makezine.com/2014/11/07/how-to-e … st-probes/

the type of print you are making will effect your strategy and settings.
also pla almost needs a cooing fan although I have made some nice prints without it.

I generally go for a gooey hot full first layer or two then lower the heat and increase speed for normal layers.
15 -20% infill is usually plenty for most work. extra perimeters add strength.
and for flat top pieces I again slow down the speed and push the filament flow for the top two or three layers.
slicer will actually allow you to vary layer height. so on a curved surface like an animal you can make finer layers on the curves to improve surface texture / finish.

It takes time to learn what setting effect what quality points. I encourage you to try some if not all of the test prints mentioned in the above link. and share the results. then we can help with one quality issue at a time. also if you post pics of you prints we can help.
Tin

I have had my Press for a few days and have had mostly positive results.
However, I am interested in doing some more detailed pieces and want to set the soliprint quality to high.
I am not having much luck with it at all. It seems harder for it to stick and the prints just end up being ruined after a few minutes.
Does anyone have any tips for getting higher quality prints to go? some pics would be nice as well.
