She used a Afinia H479 printer, and chose a fill of hollow. I noticed that xyzware has a option of hollow, but wouldn't that weaken the build to the point of just falling apart quickly. I'm guessing that the print time would be much faster or am I missing something. Doesn't density determine strength. Why did she choose hollow?

Thanks

Hollow in 3D printer terms usually does not mean hollow as you would not be able to print top surface layers. Usually they use a fill patter of cube or hexagons like a honeycomb at a certain percentage. This still gives you strength at less weight but saves on time and filament. The parts look thin so she could also get around the infill issue by making them top and bottom surfaces with enough layers to complete the thickness.

For example if the piece is 3mm thick and you layer height is .2 then that would 5 layers per mm. So you could make your bottom thickness set at 7 and the top could be set at 8. Then you would not have infill but the part would still be solid. You could set your infill for truly hollow in this case.
