With ABS you need to keep the entire print a uniform temp to avoid warping and layer splitting. The enclosure helps to accomplish this. It also does reduce noise although this is one of the quitest I have owned. Yes it does make prints better by tighter temp control. Your bed and hotend stay closer to their set temp without cool air hitting the causing the machine to have to adjust more which actually puts more stress on the controllers mosfets and means they both spend more time not at the desired temp with no door. PLA does not have these requirements.

On my Solidoodle the door was just on hinges that rotate on M3 bolts. You'd probably be happier going out and buying real hinges and drilling the appropriate holes in the printer frame and plexiglass.

My Da Vinci 1.0 was used. I bought it on ebay when that guy was selling returned units before XYZ stopped him. Anyways to the point my door has some bad scratches and it is hard sometimes to see what is going on with my print without opening it. If any of you have a 1.0 that is being parted or has other issues and you would like to make some cash on the door I would be interested in discussing a price and payment through Paypal. PM me if you have a deal.
