Also totally agree simplify 3d is great, i would say success in the beginning is about a combination of everything.
simplify 3d is just another tool in the toolbox with slic3r and other useful tools.

Learn each one has strength and weaknesses each is really good at something and bad at others.

so the best solution is what ever you can handle. what do you want to pay with time or money.

in my view there should be a healthy balance there.

Best Regards.

I just found an additional one. I was unable to extrude, and put it down to a hot jam. After totally cleansing everything in acetone, I still couldn't extrude. Cleaned the wheel on the extruder with the brush, and suddenly was extruding again. Weirdly, there didn't seem to be much plastic on there, but there were some small flecks. That was enough to stop it feeding. 3 minutes with the brush and we're off again.

For those who are unhappy with slic3r but don't want to drop a large amount of money on s3d, I'd recommend giving Cura a try. It's free, so worth looking at. For me, it has improved my print quality no end. I think it doesn't work for everyone, but for me it's a much better solution than slic3r or spending over $100. But then I've never seen s3d running. Maybe that would change my opinion!
