I agree there is a learning curve to Solidworks, but it's miles above the free modellers out there. I can't stand sketchup from the few times I've tried it.

Once you've used a proper parametric constructive modeller (solidworks, inventor, etc...) you'll never go back!

If you're fortunate enough to have access to Solidworks, then I strongly suggest keeping at it...it's really not that hard I found the integrated tutorials invaluable when I first started. If you get stuck, feel free to PM me.
It's really nice to have every feature defined and linked so when you make changes it propagates through the model or assembly...

Learned a neat method of defining and overmold surface to a solid model in SW...I apologize ahead for some of my verbal flubs...but I think it is quite valuable for those of us working with tool handles, etc.
