yes you have to use the ATMEGA 1284 , search the forums, you should find a post about how to flash it with the correct firmware.

Ok, so I lashed out and bought one of these LCD's with converter for Sang board. How do I get it going with my SD3, I've soldered the headers on. . . . . do I need to upgrade the chip to the ATMEGA 1284 ?

I don't meaen to sound grumpy but you stated you where looking at putting a Panelolu on your SD rev E.. Now your talking generic LCD meant for a ramps or possibly Sanguinololu with an adapter from one of them . I just don't which what to talk about????

The adapter i linked above does access the ICSP pins.

The LCD Controller kits automatically come with the breakout board meant for the ramps board, but you need a breakout board meant for the sanguinololu.

Also, it seems to me that both the ebay clones work the same way as the panelolu.

Okay so searching ebay i found this conversion board which is meant for sanguinololu:

Puts out the two 10 pin (2x5) connectors for LCD and SD card.

And this screen and encoder with full size SD card slot:

so for $14 + a firmware flash and some strategic solder removal I can get stand alone printing. Nice!

Do you have any pictures of the board? I've seen LCD kits on ebay, and they also come with a break out board for the multiple 10pin (2x5) type connectors to convert into a long 22 pin single row heater that is on some of the printer boards.

LCD Rotary Encoder Controller with Solidoodle Rev E Board?

I'm looking into the viability of attaching an LCD Rotary Encoder Controller such as panelolu to my Solidoodle 3 with Rev E board.

I would like this because it will as reliability and stability compared to Windows, possible blue screens, "program not responding", and other errors created by running software greatly overpowered for something as low level as CNC controlled stepper motors, with no apparent added benefit.

I followed Lawsy's tutorial: http://www.soliforum.com/topic/127/pane … ete-guide/ but I would like some more specific information for my current board.

I believe the Rev E board has the suggested AT90USB1286 chip (unfortunately in SMD form): http://wiki.solidoodle.com/update-firmware

There are two clusters of 14pin (2x7) Expansion ports (EXP1 and EXP2) that need to have the solder removed before installing headers as well as the ISCP connector.

Any help would be appreciated greatly.
