I'll be honest, the cartridges don't 'fit' well into the slot. If you don't insert them just right, they won't make contact and it will not 'see' the cartridge as being installed.

Another tip I  might add, is to put a popsicle stick underneath the plastic holder that you use to hold the cartridge into the printer. Why? Sometimes the filament roll inside the cartridge will get caught and get pulled up slightly, causing the cartridge to lose contact with the printer and this will cause the printer to error out and stop your print.

I put a popsicle stick between the cartridge and the plastic holder (on top of the cartridge) and this fixed this issue completely. Since I did this I haven't had a single print stop due to the cartridge becoming slightly dislodged.

But again, you might need to push down a good bit on the cartridge to make it make contact.

EDIT:Also, 'new software' with an 'old cartridge' wouldn't cause this issue on the printer.

I am not real sure about old carts and new printers being compatible. The reason I say this is from what I have seen this company is trying hard to keep people from resetting cartridges and cracking these newer machines.

From what we understand of the newer printers is that any time a print is started and the machine is connected to the internet it sends the serial number of the cartridge. That serial number is then compared to a purchased cartridge database to confirm that serial has indeed been purchased. If it does not show up in the database then the printer gets disabled till a purchased cartridge is loaded. Now who is to say if this database includes even older cartridges? I have seen it many times in my line of work when a company upgrades a product they completely forget about support for or customers that may still be using the older product. So they could have without thinking said lets start the database at X serial number to cover the cartridges sold with the new models and around the time of the new model release. If that is the case then the newer units will fail older cartridges because they do not appear in the database.

I would also not expect them to keep the older serial numbers because they know about the resetters as well as people reloading cartridges with other filament. They would want to get rid of these users as well. So by deleting cartridges from the database of a certain age it would get rid of a lot of resetters and reloaders.

Just my guess, but if I where them I would be trying to hurt anyone that is attempting to bypass or get around my cartridge system as that is my real bread and butter.
