It doesn't really matter if the outside of the barrel is black. Have you tried extruding anything? You may have to do a purge before you can get quality filament again.

I managed to clean only small parts with acetone. Rest is still dark, though not completely black.

Are the black spots leftover ABS in the barrel?

I would think that you would want to get everything off to look like new, but elmoret would probably be the best to answer this.

I had to torch it because I heated the nozzle to 180C but the plastic was stuck for good and the wooden blocks kept breaking (bending pipe?). Don't know why that happens.
