Fortunately your tip has helped significantly - enough so that I can at least separate the part from the support material.

If there was a setting in Slic3r to allow the support interface extrusion width to be set independently that would be really useful!

Ultimately I guess I really need to get active cooling on my printer so bridging will work better, and then I can use far less supports for many of my prints. As I'm using ABS I haven't needed it yet.

I am using the 1.0 mm nozzle and have been getting some great prints, but using slic3r with support enabled I get a support that is almost impossible to remove without damaging the part.
This is one of the downsides to a thick extrusion - the part is very mechanically strong, but so is the support material.

Excellent. With these I could use a kraken with the volcano! Also would this allow for faster prints with .4 mm since there's a longer melt zone to get the filament liquid? (I assume that's the reason why they offer nozzles in this size now)

I can't answer the question with the Volcano but 240 is a little hot with a V5 and a .6 I run T-Glase at about 215.
