Reach out to jagowilson he just did this to his SD4. There are some differences between the SD3&4 but nothing that can't be overcome. You will need to change the firmware but that is the same for any printer using the Printerboard.
Alternately you might read through jagowilson's posts.

I have had my SD4 for several months, and I have finally borked my hot end (I think). Some filament broke inside and by the time I caught it and was able to stop the print, I ended up with a nasty hot clog in the nozzle. Even drilling it out didn't help. As a last resort, I tried getting the nozzle hot and pushing through, but no luck. Furthermore, as I took the hot end apart, I noticed that the insulation going to the heating block has basically disintegrated.

I *could* try to take everything apart, and get a new nozzle, or even replace the entire hot end with a factory replacement, but I have been thinking about going to an e2d mk6 anyway. I see that several other people have done this with their SD4. I am not quite sure of how doing this will be different from the instructions for the SD3, though. I can't find much documentation of what has changed.

Can I still just switch out the power supply, or are there other parts that now need to be replaced? I assume that there is no wiring on the current SD4 that can't handle the extra power if it gets drawn, but I am not 100% sure about that.

Mine has the new hot end and aluminum extruder block. Is the carriage the same between the SD3 and SD4 so that I can just have someone print a modified lawsy mk5 extruder for me and use this with the e3d mk6?

Is there anything that is different about the firmware update?

Anyway, if you have done this mod, I would appreciate some advice.

James
