its called spam bots mostly from 3rd world IPs many groups, Forums and business sites been getting slammed lately with em trying to hack site. the only way to fight it is webmasters have to get an updated protecting from them including harder way to join automated. they can join like 50k users names daily easy. I think you can ignore/refuse followers on thingaverse if you want also. just know when site implements security from these bots site may be down a bit and may have changes to features that need tweaked by them and re-learned by users. also those dang code boxes to join etc like most sites. its a bit of a pain but worth it to block the bots. those are how they hack credit lines at businesses this time of year. so mostly sites that sell online get slamed. I am member of over 100 groups, forums, blogs etc still which is a fraction of what I was on 3 years ago when this malware etc started getting worse. I only join sites that dont share member info with everyone mostly and never complete profile info. if I want 7 billion people all over the world to know more about me than I do maybe I would LMAO. both my sons are IT for major companies and they dont even have facebook accounts due to that.

It is spam software without a doubt. Too bad it is heading our (3D print community) way. I wonder if there is a way to block someone on Thingiverse?

OK so idk if this is the right section but it was so strange I thought I had to share it with someone. I logged on to thingiverse today and noticed that a bunch of people had followed me, which is strane because I haven't uploaded anything in a while. Then I looked at their names:

So I clicked on the first guy who had a seemingly random description and a link to an unrelated(and 404) website:

and then each other person also had an increasignly random description and more unrelated, 404 websites

I wont post them all but you get the idea. If i had to guess I'd say someone is testing some new possibly advanced spamming software or maybe someone just has way too much time. IDK but it sure is strange! I was unable to track down the pictures but they seem like they are stock photos. They all have 11 likes which is strange cause they don't have any designs uploaded. Not sure how that's possible.

What do you guys think about this? has this happened to you?
