Problem solved!
Downloaded all applicable software and tried to re-flash the firmware which didn't work. It is and will remain a brick.
I purchased the printer from microcenter- who offer an unconditional 30 return - which I did! Luckily they had a refurbished unit for $330.
I took the refurbished machine and a 2 year unconditional guarantee and $80 cash.

I will never buy a computer / printer Anything from anywhere other than Microcenter again THEY ROCK.

Edit - printed my first print from the new machine and the quality is much better than the previous machine. I guess the first one was a lemon.

Having 2 black lines is a sign that the firmware has become corrupted or deleted. Check out the Voltivo forum, searching for "bricked" for help. I'd pass on links but I'm not allowed to for some reason yet.

Another place to look at is the World Class Tek website (wctekDOTcom), in the Downloads area, specifically the file titled DAVINCI 1.0 reset. The instructions there are specifically written for reloading a older firmware, but will allow to get back to where you were, barring a terminal problem.

Here is a repository of the firmware and other things you might need in the Voltivo Website.

If all else fails, drop me a PM with a phone number and I'll see if I can help you that way. I recently spent three days with two black lines and it turned out I was doing everything right, but I had erroneously placed the files in a different directory. Step by step can't help if you can't read.

If your LCD is showing two black bars or is completely black and the light / alarm is flashing something has gone very wrong with your printer.

If it was just an error of some kind, the LCD would still be working even if the error was severe enough that they did the light flash. So I'd think that your firmware on the printer isn't even loading correctly at this point. Your only "possibility" of fixing a firmware issue easily is to short the reset pads (jumper no longer exists) and reload a working firmware. You can find details on how this is done in multiple threads that have to do with how to revert to stock firmware after flashing the repetier mod.

Of course this won't work if something on the board is fried, but it is the best solution short of warranty replacement which you will have an issue with due to modding the hotend connector.

Hi All - having a serious issue with the 1.0 printer. I'm not sure if these issues are connected to each other - but I would appreciate some help.

It's a new printer I've had it about 4 weeks and run one cart through it. It's completely stock including the software although I did cut the "molex " connector off the extruder heater.

The problem started yesterday with an alignment error - the part didn't move on the bed. Please see attached image.

I turned off the printer, sent a part I've printed before which worked ok for a small 2 hour print. The print did seem to be a bit more messy than normal. The next print showed "error 31". Turned the printer off and checked inside, nothing was snagged. Restarted and printer initialized and started to print then stopped showing error 31 again.

I turned the printer off and back on - this time the LCD screen screen showed two black bars- no text. The interior lights flashed.
Cycling the power again the LcD screen remains black however the internal lights are not illuminated.

Thank you for any help -
