After you cut your grid, and applied the ink in the grooves, you should lightly sand the surface. This will remove any raised edges around the newly cut grooves, and sharpen up the lines.

You don't have to machine a grid, all you need to do is use a sharp blade (box cutter) and make a couple of passes. The first pass with the cutting edge, the second with the back of the blade (to enlarge the width of the groove), then use a permanent ink pen to fill the groove. After that, you can cover it with Kapton.

The depth of the groove will not be near enough to affect the rigidity of the aluminum bed.

Have you considered taking the kapton off, using a marker, then replacing the tape?

Is their a way to put a permanent grid pattern on an existing heat bed?
I print on Kapton tape. I thaught about machining a grid pattern into the aluminum
but it would cause the bed to warp when heated.
