I think the mechanical limits for the SD3 are about 205mm If you make any modifications such as adding an anti-backlash nut, adding thumb screws or wing nuts for leveling the bed or replace the original pressed in coupler with a flex coupler, you'll have a lot less (like about 175-180mm).

So, while the vertical space looks like it's actually taller than 8" (200mm), it really isn't.

But then again, you can always print your models in sections and glue them together to achieve any height you really want.

From my rough measurements, you'll be able to get another 1/4 inch out of the platform. You'll want to leave a little clearance at the bottom to avoid having any issues so it is correct that the SD4 prints at 8" height. If you ask me, it sounds better from a marketing standpoint if you just say 8x8x8 instead of throwing decimals or fractions in the build dimensions.

I know the printing dimensions of Solidoodle 3&4 is 8x8x8 inches, but then again I see no reason why these printers can't print more in the Z axis, seeing how far the bed can move up and down.
But then again I think I'm missing something, why would Solidoodle not advertise larger build volume if it was possible, and why don't I see any post about this.
