Ok - you shouldn't need 12V power to the rumba to connect to the computer or do firmware changes.
There is a power jumper on the board which allows you to power the microcontroller from the USB - research this on the reprapwiki rumba page.
Supplying 12V to the 5V input may have been a bad idea. I have done this to an AVR before and it's lived, but no promises...

I have 12v power going into the 12v & 5v inputs.

Anyone have a good 12v to 5v DC converter they recommend? My psu only provides 12v.

Hi
I just spent the weekend updated my controller card to a rumba. Yippie!
However in arduino when I try to upload the firmware I get the following error:

avrdude: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude: stk500v2_ReceiveMessage(): timeout
avrdude: stk500v2_getsync(): timeout communicating with programmer

Is the only workaround to buy a device to reflash the bootloader? If that is the best course of action, then can you recommend a good and affordable one to me that will work in Rumba & other ATmega 2560 boards?
