I know it can be run with the original wood, I guess it's just my paranoia that says metal would be more logical.
Either way I've still got a Filawinder to order and setup so that's all way ahead of me anyway.

Do you think I'd be able to print with 1.3mm filament? Or would it be best to stop making the stuff and find someone who can drill out the hole for me?
The other thing I'm curious about is swapping the wood for some form of extrusion like mitsumi or something.
I was a guitar nerd for long enough to realise just how damned annoying wood can be.

Problem solving etc etc]]> All seems good form the photos. You'd be looking for anything missing teeth or obviously amiss in the gearbox. The grease you have on hand is fine for the trust bearing, and it does nto need to be removed to be lubricated.

Wear mark on the wood is not a problem.

What kind of lubrication should I be using? I've got a can of the lithium grease for the printer, would that do?
Oh and does one have to remove the bearing to lube it?

As to the gearmotor, here it is: Not sure if there's anything amiss as I've never looked inside one that was performing properly.

Yeah, I dried it in the oven for about 2 hours at 80 and have had it sat on a heater most of the time in a plastic container packed with every desiccant I've ever acquired tongue

Right, I'll run it for a while today just to make sure it's still actually working then I'll take it apart to check for issues.
I assume the screws on the back(?) of the gear motor are how to access it's guts?

As to drilling, yeah, I'll have to find a drill press somewhere but that is the plan.
Though I'll try lowering my temp down by 10 to see if I can't get it a little bigger without having to drill.

That's good. Did you predry the PLA? If so, you may need to drill out the nozzle to 1.8 or 1.9mm. Work your way up slowly.

Not normal. Check the thrust bearing and gearbox internals for damage. Lubricate thrust bearing. If noise persists, cross your fingers and hope for the best. I can get you a new gearmotor if needed.

Normal. The power supply voltage only varies a few percent, but the human ear is very sensitive to frequency shifts so a change of a few percent in motor speed is audible. It makes a very small impact on filament diameter, nearly negligible. If you're pursuing extremely tight tolerances, you can move them to separate supplies. Even the best 6 amp supplies dip when a 3 amp load is dumped on them.

My only current queries are about the rather disturbing noise that one can hear towards the end of this clip and the sound from the motor varying a lot as if the voltage isn't a constant even though it's plugged straight into the wall. This seems to coincide with the 'out' light clicking off and on.
