I am new on the forum here. I, too, have had problems with the XYZ printing software so I have used Slic3r but something is not quite right. I get the blue model OK, everything looks good, but when I hit PRINT things just stop. The printer just sits there. It's as if the Print Command is not executed or something. This looks to be similar to ikilby's problem listed above.
Any suggestions.

n2ri,

Your in the XYZ printer subsection, so your guess is correct that XYZware is the software that comes with the DaVinci. It has a non standard version of slic3r as its built in slicing utility and a fairly basic interface to view the stl files with.

Part of the issue is how bad XYZware is. You just don't get the plethora of settings needed for anything complex or difficult to print and even on the "better supported" PC side it's well known for crashing on complex models.

also streaming data (on web) is using the serial bus thru com3 and 3D printers use serial bus on dif com port so this can jam data flow at times. you will also notice game, music, videos or downloads skip or freeze if doing them while slicing. and thats even with a duo core 2,2ghz proceccor with 3gb ram and 15gb swap partition on a 1TB HDD 90% free space. thats why I refrain from those things while slicing plus slicing goes faster.

From what I've heard, the Mac version of the software is very different than the PC version. Differences include no base64 encoding and communication to the printer differences at the very least. To be very blunt, it should NEVER take very long to upload a print to the SD card over USB2. I'd wonder if this is just not another example of the XYZware under OSX having issue's.

Check your file size, I'd be willing to bet it's under 75MB. While I transfer files to my SDcard directly from my PC to the SDcard it's through a USB2 cheap adapter ($3.97 shipping included) and I get 5MB a second throughput, so even a huge 75MB file only takes 15 second or so. I realize this is faster than the Duet on the printer can manage, but still "ages" should never be happening.
