yes they are the replacement for xyzware.

Personally I like the repetier host, you can download it and play with it before you swap firmware. It uses slic3r also for slicing.

choose update firmware,
browse to desired firmware
done,
use pronterface, cura or repetier. Set-up each as desired and needed.

What are the pronterface, cura, and repetier for? Replace the xyzware?

To load the alternate firmware into the da vinci is very easy if it is stock unit. Also it would not hurt trying the yxzware that came in the box if you just want to print with slic3r. Are you choosing the right printer type in slicer? I thought my video was about as easy as it gets to do a firmware swap.

Please for the love of god will some one make a firmware for the da vinci for us dummies. I will pay you money for it or whatever. I cant believe they even sell this machine with the appalling software that comes with it. Horrible layer separation, horrible layer lines and detail in the models. I have tried everything to make this printer work but it is still a piece of junk with this software. I tried the slic3r thing but xyzware never accepts the encrypted gcode made by the slic3r and notepad++. I have tried replacing the headers of the gcode just like others have done and my xyzware just crashes. I use firmware 1.1.G, software 1.1.29.4
All my stl files are from Solidworks.
I have contacted XYZ support and I will let you guess how that went. After a few days, they said level the bed. This is after I told them to search the internet for the issues people are having with their machine and software. Going from 1.1.G to 1.1.I turned my already sorry prints into unusable garbage. I print finger prosthetics and need detail for my models. I had to resurrect my Up Mini just to keep going. I had big hopes for the Da Vinci machine but man what a disappointment.
