I moved the motor pulley and the Y-shaft drive motor pulley. I noticed that the Y-shaft drive is even pushing the frame. I can see the frame moving left and right when printing. Could it be possible that any of the ball bearings are binding the Y-Shaft drive? Before putting back together the Y-Shaft, Pulleys, etc I checked that the Y-Shaft was easy to insert in the ball bearings inner ring.

Could it be possible that this problem is causing the Y axis shifting? I tried loosening and tightening the belts with to results.

Any ideas?

I held the Y-Shaft drive and I moved the Y-Carriage back and forth until the pulleys aligned by them selfs. I measured the distance between the flanged ball bearing and the pulley and I printer some collars. I inserted the collars on each side and tighten the set screws of the pulleys (one side needed some filling). It worked but for about 30 minutes; after that I noticed the print was facing out and I noticed that the Y-Shaft drive was moving left to right very slightly. It seems that whatever is allowing the Y-Shaft drive to move it has a lot of force after some time.

Any ideas?

CB

Trying to analyze the problem, I loosened the screws from the pulleys, released the motor belt, and I held the Y-shaft drive while moving the Y-Carriage assembly back and forth. Photo 1 captures the movement of the pulleys (squares). The tick arrow represents the Y-Carriage and the small arrow represents the movement of the pulleys looking from above.

Now, for a second testing I removed the belts from the pulleys and I put back the motor belt. Photo 2 represents what happened with the Y-Shaft drive. The big arrows represent the movement of the motor belt and the small arrows represent the movement of the Y-Shaft drive.

I tried sanding the rod and the ball bearings inner rings a little more just not to be too tight but it didn't work.

Thank you Ward I really appreciate it. I am going to give it a try, I am just hopping I can print them before the printer comes apart. Probably I am going to have to hold the shaft by hand while is printing.

I had the exact same problem and the solution was to design and print (in two halves) a spacer that fit perfectly over the shaft. Then place that on the shaft between the Pulley and the bearing. Do this for both sides and the rod can no longer slide through your bearing back and forth. Then worry about really dialing things in. I don't have a picture but I found the .stl just to give you an idea. Just use Acetone and make some ABS slurry to stick the two halves together. I'm sure the measurements for yours will be different but it was quick and easy to design. You'll want to sand the joining faces perfectly flat and then apply your slurry and clamp on the rod for a while till it dries. The small end of the collar goes towards the bearing. It is almost impossible to find bearings that fit that rod perfectly and I sanded my rod down just a little to much in the drill press.
Hope that helps

Hello,

I need your help. I am having problems trying to align the Y drive shaft after I made a bunch of modifications to my printer: replaced the self-aligining bushes for flanged ball bearings I had left from the modification "How to forget about circle problems for ever....", I replaced the carriages for Lawsy X-Y carriages design and the Y-Axis Bracket for Solidoodle 2/3 - Lipped version from OzAdr1an. I have been trying for over 8 hours and the Y-shaft keeps moving left and right when I move the Y-Carriange back and forth. Sometimes the Y-shaft moves all the way the the right and its coming off from the left flanged ball bearing. I have watched the Soliddoodle video "true circle realignment instruction" over and ove and I am following the same steps, but still nothing.

Any help will be very much appreciated since I need to print a present for my daughter for her upcoming B-Day.

Thank you,

CB
