That makes two of us... Other than a reload of windows maybe and  fresh updates I'm all out of ideas.  I just keep thinking we are missing something obvious though.  Have you contacted SD Support about this issue?

i have not yet because i thought it was something dumb and obvious...im almost positive its not my pc tho because the old mother board even tho the x axis motor pins were fine had no problem connecting to my pc and laptop

Looks like another computer has already been tried, and it's doing the same thing. Other than finding another solidoodle owner nearby and trying their known working computer / trying your computer or laptop on their machine, or as you suggest making a clean-slate machine, i'm not sure we can guarantee we've completely eliminated the computer side.

You're right, board being DOA is actually quite unlikely, but I'm not sure it's impossible.

I don't know grob I have a PC that just won't seem to connect to any of my printers.  The funny thing is it is exactly the same as my other PC.  So I'm going the route of format the hard drive and start from scratch.  I would find it very coincidental for two boards to be bad but you never know.

Yup jusy tested it on my regular printer the cable works fine

One quick question... I don't think you covered it earlier... does your windows make an alert sound when usb devices are plugged in/out? if so does it do this for the printer?

no it does not make the noise when i plug in but my other usb devices do

Ok, it looks like the board is not showing up as a usb device at all on your computer. This could be quite a number of things, and is most often a power or physical connection problem. The following are worth a go to further isolate the problem:

* Plug the printer into a different usb port, particularly one it hasn't been connected to before
* Try with a different computer, if you have one handy
* Use a different USB cable

While experimenting, each time you disconnect the board trying things out, disconnect both the USB and the main power ensure you fully power-cycle the board.
