I have ZERO electrical and soldering skills. Zero.
So what I did was purchase a 12v power supply, a four-way 3 pin connector (3 pin extension if needed), and a few fans off Amazon. As far as cooling goes, this made it very easy to upgrade my hot end, cool motors and my board, as well as a nozzle fan when needed. That way, I didn't have to solder, and it left multiple options open.
However, there is no option for gcode fan control using this method.

The Printrboard does have a spot to tap into for 12v for gcode controlled cooling. It will be in an area between the connectors: F-L_FAN_B-T. Solder a connector to that. Look into Mods/Hacks section of Soliforum. A SD4 user recently added a gcode controlled fan from his REV E. All newer Solidoodles have the same board.

This was one of the tweaks I made, just used a couple of pins from a scrap printer and soldered them on, all good to go. I used it initially for the hot end cooling, but the E3D mount kind of got a bit huge. Now using a combined heatsink / hot end fan (always on) and using the "fan" settign to run a rear mounted electronics cooling fan (helps with running longer prints - preventing "lock up", I have found)
