I had to cut down my compression spring down to about 3/8" in order to get at least half the 5/16" nut threaded on the Z rod with Z at home. I compress my spring to about 1/4" with the nut. 1/2" may work also, depends on the wire size of the spring and how much it can be compressed..

Could someone tell me what size spring I should get for the z-axis fix where you put the nut on with the printed bone shaped part? I got one that is about an inch long and just fits over a 5/16 bolt. But I'm concerned that it will be too long even compressed when the z-axis is at home.
