that measurement dosnet have anything to do with clogs, clogs come from particulates or carbonized (burn) plastic that gets stuck, that measurement is used to factor how much or how fast to push the plastic.

i use octave and thier diameter is pretty damn consistant i have mine set at 1.755 and the multiplier at .79 and i can switch between any color octave filament and not touch the settings! my single walls are consistently .42 +/- .01

Don, your filament setting might be set at 3.mm like dude suggested, so check that. measure your filament 5 times a few inches apart adding all the measurments then devide by 5 use that as your filament diameter and continue to calibrate your extruder http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZGdMc2ebPo use your EEPROM instead of fiddleing with firmware (ALT +E in r host)

I just solved this dilemma myself.
Click on Configure for Slic3r. Click on Filament settings. If you are having the same issue as I did, the filament diameter is set to 3. Use a caliper to measure the ACTUAL diameter of filament you are using at the time. For example, my red ABS that came with my SD2 measures at 1.78; but fearful of clogs, I set the filament diameter to 1.82
