When I first started using ABS on my brand new E3d I had the exact same issue where I came back an hour after the print started flawlessly just to find a foot of filament in a long loop coming through the extruder gear out in a big loop in the print area and back down into the peek, obviously not flowing anymore with the printer jumping around in mid air! I just upped my extruder temp to 225 (Was getting good prints at 215-220) So I would be interested to hear how your prints at 230 go!

I have found that I have to shut down my computer AND printer between each print. If I attempt to reheat after a print, the temp dies off immediately after I hit "Run Job".

I am posting this as a reference to anyone who may have this problem.
It turns out that I had not been heating the hot end enough. My SD stock would run at 195, and the E3D is now humming at 220. It seems I no longer have any feed/flow issues, and the filament is extruding smooth. It appears the heating element was not melting the filament as fast as it was extruded, causing it to flow elsewhere.

Sincerely hope this helps!
All thanks to wardjr

Am I doing something wrong?
I am tempting to spend the cash to have a nearby 3D print shop make one of Boz's E3D/mk5 body/filament guide tomorrow...but they rape on prints.

Any help? If you own the E3D and you have an MK5 why are you even messing around with the stock hot end. Switch it out and hang the stock hot end on the wall as a reminder of how much you hated it.
As far as calibrations go with the E3D you need to make sure that 100mm's called for = 100mm's Delivered. Your filament diameter needs to be real close to actual diameter and your extrusion multiplier is going to be real close to 1.

I've seen some people do that and I just never put 2+2 together. I'll be soldering my connectors today for the E3D.
But on the other note, what could be causing this excessive clogging?? While searching through my settings, I saw my filament was set to 3. I measured the filament and punched in 1.78. I had the best print to date, then when I ran it again for further tests is when the clogs started.
