Yes, you can dump the whole thing in acetone. The retaining ring is metal. Your going to want to get some retaining ring pliers, if you don't have them, because you will need to take it apart to get to the channels on the back of the nozzle.

My first inclination would be to soak the nozzle with melt filter in acetone, but I am not sure if the black ring which holds the filter in is plastic or not.  Would it be okay?
