the lines are always gonna be there its just how the machine works building one lyer at a time. they become less noticeable the higher the resolution. its the same with all 3d printers, not just the solidoodle. once you get your printer calibrated youll get some really nice prints.

I'm a 3d modeller btw, need anything just tell me.

Yeah that particular model of mine is pretty low poly, just my laziness really.
And indeed there are still lines present, that I believe is a result of 'z axis wobble'.
Apparently it varies between different Solidoodles fairly widely... And can be fixed(mostly) via a few mods.

In my case I tend to smooth my things with sandpaper then give them a quick acetone vapor bath, there's a heap of threads on the subject here if you look around

Thanks for your reply.

Well obviously it also depends on the precision of the printer.

I certainly see difference in quality between your old and new prints. Butthe new one doesn't look very good to me either. You can still see lines all over the plastic and maybe this is how the 3d model was and its an intended effect, but the new model seems low-polygon, "edgy".

What does smoothing the models mean?

It all comes down to calibration and mods... And of course, skill.

Here is a comparison between one of my first multi-part prints(pink) and one of my recent prints(red).
There is a marked improvement between the two in terms of line wobble and accuracy to the 3d model...
Admittedly I'm still working on making the calibration smoother etc etc, but given I smooth all my models anyway it's somewhat irrelevant.

I've seen the 'resolution' of Solidoodle on the site. That still doesnt tell me much about how a print will look like.

I've seen pictures, but no close-up. I've seen close-ups of prints by other printers and they look rather terrible. You see lines and the print for a little closer looks like its made up of tiny melted cubes or lines.

So yeah, if someone can show me closeup images of Solidoodle prints that would be great.
