I mainly use sketchup to design stuff, however it is not necessary as there are thousands of files to download at www.thingiverse.com. I wouldn't expect to be able to sell printed phone covers instantly. It takes a lot of time to tune a printer to get decent quality, and the Solidoodle is no exception. Solidoodle uses ABS or PLA plastic available from a variety of retailers online. The Solidoodle is a great printer in my opinion, however it requires a lot of care and attention to produce good prints.
